The reason why when we eat pineapple and feel a burning sensation on our tongue is because pineapple contains an enzyme called “Bromelain” which has the ability to break down protein, preventing it from being left in the intestines. Our tongue is also coated with natural protein, so the enzyme Bromelain breaks down the protein on our tongue.

But don’t be alarmed, because when we stop eating pineapple for a while, our tongue will create new proteins to coat the surface of the tongue, causing the burning and itching sensation on the tongue to disappear in a short period of time.

Tips for eating pineapple without burning your tongue
