“Van Dijk” admits the result could have been worse if Man Utd scored late

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk admits the result could have been much worse if Harry Maguire had scored late on.

Van Dijk said: “It could have been a lot worse if Manchester United had the chance to score. I’m very disappointed to lose points at home but this is what it is and we have to move on. We will do that.”

“We were 2-1 up, then we tried to control the game and have possession for two or three more times. And We gave the ball away too easily at times and left more spaces than we should have. And We are not perfect, we still have to learn and we have to learn from this as well.” 

There was talk before the game that Liverpool would comfortably beat Manchester United after Ruben Amorim’s side were in poor form and are currently 14th in the table, having won just two of their last eight games. 

The 33-year-old dismissed speculation that Liverpool underestimated their opponents, saying: “The media says that. It has nothing to do with us. And We are prepared for a very difficult game like today. We don’t underestimate them.”
